Quail Run Water Distribution and Treatment System

February 5, 2015 by

Location: Myersville, Maryland

Project Description:

Fox and Associates, Inc. developed improvement plans for the construction of approximately 2,500 L.F. of new 2” and 3” raw water main and over 5,300 L.F. of 8” and 12” potable water distribution mains located in Myersville, Maryland. The facilities are located in an upscale residential development known as Quail Run. The wells and treatment facility have been developed in order to supplement the existing water system operated by the Town of Myersville. The site topography is generally rolling to steep, which is typical to Frederick County.

The raw waterlines which are primarily located in the floodplain area of Quail Run deliver ground water from three (3) different wells to the water treatment plant. The water treatment plant, which was designed by McCrone, Inc. provides green sand filtration and chemical disinfection for approximately 27,500 gpd. After the water is treated, it is directly injected into the water distribution system eliminating the need for a on-site storage tank, while providing additional domestic and fire flows to the subdivision. Fox provided extensive project coordination/management with the Owner, McCrone, Inc., and Review Agencies throughout the design process to coordinate the site planning for the Treatment Plant as well as planning the utility sizes and connection locations. Both the Water Treatment Plant and the water system will be owned by the Town of Myersville.

Since the wells are primarily located in the 100-year floodplain of Grindstone Run, Fox & Associates also successfully obtain construction permits from the Maryland Department of the Environment and the Army Corp of Engineers for two stream crossings and floodplain construction. While we were able to avoid any wetland impacts, permitting for floodplain construction as well as two stream crossing was necessary. Fox & Associates successfully obtained construction permits from the Maryland Department of the Environment and the Army Corp of Engineers.
